Sri Raghavendra Swamy Saptaha

Sri Raghavendra Swamy Saptaha means a week-long celebration starting from Palguna Shukla dweetya to Palguna Shukla Sapthami as per the panchanga of the Mutt.

It was on Phalguna shulla dwithya of 1621  Sri Venkatanatha ascended to the peeta of Madhva Maha Samsthana, kumbakonam it was this day he was given sanysa ashrama by Sri Sudhendra teertha at the palace in tangore . He was given the new sanysa name as sri Raghavendra teertha. It was on this sacred day the Guru was presented to the world

It was On  Palguna shukla  Sapthami of 1595, venkatanatha was born to the parents Sri Thimanna Bhata and Smt Gopikamba at Bhuvanagiri. He was born as a third child to the parents.

These two dates of sanysa sweekara and venkatanatha’s jayanthi falls  exactly in a week. If we notice the dates carefully, it is observed  the birth day follows the sanyasa day ie, the sanysa day comes first and then the birth day presumably showing the high importance of the sanyasa in the life of Venkatanatha.

This length of time summing to almost a week is eventful, celebrated with great grandeur filled with devotional programes  in all the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutts and  Madhva institutions by all devotees world over.
