Sacred Mother of Venkatanatha

Thimanna Bhatta and Gopikamba were blessed by lord Venkateshwara to have a boy child. Accordingly, Gopikamba conceived a child. She knew the boy in her womb would be someone incredible and he would become a Saint of the highest order. The soul selected this womb considering the purity of the lineage (Vamsha Shuddhi). The great grandfather Krishna Bhatta of the Gowthama Gothra was a Scholar and Veena Pandit. He personally taught the great King – Sri Krishnadevaraya, how to play the Veena. He was honored with a Navarathna Hara by the king. The grandfather Kanakachala, a scholar and veena maestro spent much of their life with Sri Vijayendra Tirtharu. The father Thimanna Bhatta too was a scholar and veena maestro together with Gopikamba lived a quality life engaged extensively in charities

Gopikamba was from an affluent family groomed with all traditional values. She had obtained Garuda Vittala as an Ankita Nama and used to write Dasara Padas and sing in the Puja room. She was a Vidushi with exceptional knowledge in music. During her pregnancy, she preferred wearing saris of the saffron shades irrespective of the occasions keeping in mind the baby in the womb.

She used to prefer Madarangi colors on the body only because they were saintly colors. Her food habits were very Satvic. She liked cool river water in spite of warm water at home. The mother felt the heaviness of the baby during eighth and ninth month and so she used to sit on the floor mat with the women folks narrating stories from the Puranas.

She was always engaged in Dhyana and Japa instead of materialistic pleasures. She had all the luxuries but she chose to be simple and conditioned herself to a saintly lifestyle. Indeed, she was a great mother of a universal guru Sri Raghavendra Tirtharu.
