In Surapuram, a woman of poor integrity and character engaged in an unworthy profession was isolated with attack of Leprosy. Her ill health concerned her and she was also depressed with guilt of her past. The people of the village admonished her and sent her away.

 A thought crossed her mind that prayers, confession and surrender to Rayaru would bring solace to her. Concealing her body with a shawl, she visits Mantralaya and performs sevas to Rayaru amidst lot of hindrances from the public. This continued for several weeks and finally Rayaru appeared in her dreams and advised intake of certain herbs, which she followed and in a few weeks was back to normalcy, hale and healthy.

She was extremely happy with joy having no bounds continued sevas to Rayaru, now the shawl with which she covered was a disgust to her and touching it to throw away. And the same night Rayaru appeared in her dream and asked what will you give me in return for curing the disease. She replied- anything, without hesitation. Rayaru asks her the shawl to be spread on his Brindavan.

Next morning, she dips the shawl in Tungabhadra and requested the pontiff to cover the shawl across the Brindavana, as it was the wish of Rayaru, but was denied. Feeling dejected, she decided upon leaving Mantralaya as the pontiff asked her to quit the place.

The following day, after Darshan of Rayaru, the pontiff apologized to the woman, as Rayaru had instructed him in his dream to spread the shawl across the Brindavan. The pontiff sanctified the shawl with Teertha, spreads the shawl across Brindavana and performs Aarti.

Sri Raghavendra Teertharu was merciful, and transformed her life only because of her total surrender and strong devotion. Rayaru’s gesture of receiving the warmth of the shawl meant he accepted her while the society had boycotted her.
