Making of The Suvarna Kavacha

It was during 1971, the 300th year celebration of Sri Raghavendra Swamy Aradhana, the pontiff Sri Sujayendra Teertharu wished the event to be celebrated in grandeur. It was his Sankalpa to make an offering of a Suvarna Kavacha also called golden shield to Guru Brindavana and he had another wish that contribution for the expensive project to be made only by the Devotees and not the Mutt.

The pontiff discussed with the artisan for implementation of the job. On an auspicious day, the work was commenced. Through the donations of the Devotees 800 tolas of gold were secured and used. At the edge of completion, the artisans realized additional 30 tolas of gold was required to complete the work.

As the celebration was fast approaching, the pontiff was anxious as to how to get the job finished. The Mutt could have purchased the required gold from its own resources but Sri Sujayendra Teertharu opinion was to raise from the devotees only as over 800 tolas was already contributed by the devotees. One morning after the pujas he prayed to Rayaru -O Revered Guru, it looks like you do not want entire gold covering to be of your devotee’s contribution, it is all your wish. At the same time the chief artisans requested to provide the gold immediately for the shield to be delivered in time. To their wonder, One Sri Hari Krishna came and handed over 30 tolas of gold and said it was Rayaru’s wish expressed to him in his dream.

The shield was completed in time and offered to the Guru. This miracle witnessed in making of the shield made the celebration more eventful.
