Guru Jagannatha Dasa earlier called Swamy Raayacharya as a gifted devotee of Guru Rayaru . He was privileged to see the Guru whenever he prayed. Once, he wished to get married but his financial condition caused a problem. Guru Rayaru appeared for him and informed to go to the king of Mysore and seek help.Accordingly he went to the King of Mysore Mummadi Krishnarajendra Wodeyar and referred to Guru Rayaru’s instructions to meet him for the financial support. The King having got the insights from Guru rayaru sent Swamya Raya to his treasury along with one of his chiefs. He informed Swamy raya to take as much as he wants and proceed.
Swamy raya filled with joy went inside the treasury, spread his angavasthra, picked up the gold with both the hands full twice and poured into his vastra. He tied a knot to his vastra and came out of the treasury. He walked a few steps and felt he should have collected much more and immediately he walked back and took additional gold with both of his hands full and poured into his cloth. He returned home and made a submission to Guru Rayaru expressing his thanks for bestowing the fortunes on him. But unusually he got no reply from Guru Rayaru in spite of his repeated submissions and prayers. Later Guru Rayaru appeared but maintained silence. This continued for long. The disturbed Swamy Raya spontaneously scripted the Dasara pada- ‘Nee Yeke Mookanadheyo Gururve’. Guru Rayaru replied that it was not befitting of him to be greedy and consciously going back to take additional gold from the treasury. He further said the two hands full of gold taken twice for the first time would have been enough. Swamy Raya pleaded guilty and confessed for his greed.
However some scholars attribute this song to Sri Jagannatha dasa but some old manuscripts conforms to this viewpoint.
