Gopal Dasa earlier known as Bhaganna was a Hari Dasa of high rank and repute. He was the disciple of Vijaya Dasa and a staunch devotee of Sri Raghavendra Tirtharu. He had the privilege of seeing Sri Raghavendra Tirtharu live in the Brindavana at Mantralaya. Interestingly, he was the second Dasa after Vijayadasa to see Rayaru in the Brindavana along with other Devatas including Rama, Krishna, Narasimha, Vedavyasya, multiple forms of Hari along with goddess Lakshmi with Parivara Devatas. Also, he saw Sri Madhvacharya and other Yathi Sreshtas in order of hierarchy. He mentions his experience divine treat in his suladi –
Narahari Krishna Rama Sri Veda Vyasa yeraderadu naalakku Hari Moorutigalu……
Further, he declares that Sri Guru Raghavendra is the only person who can relieve from ill- effects of Kali in this yuga. This he mentions in his song-
‘Kaliyugada melinnu asura janare bahala vashvalla badhe….
Being a prolific composer, he created several songs on Hindu gods with the Ankita nama Gopal Vittala.
Gopaladasa always enjoyed the grace of Rayaru. He played his role in giving life to Srinivasacharya, when he was directed by Rayaru to meet Vijaya dasa. Also, in a noteworthy instance Gopal dasa, an Aparoksha Gnani gets insights from Rayaru and connects his three brothers to the Brahmins to fulfil his vow of feeding 100000 Brahmins.
