GURU RAGHAVENDRA SWAMY – REAL-LIFE STORY SERIES – II( Education and Learning)

Venkatanatha was a brilliant child, and as he grew was sent further to pursue higher education. He started his higher education in Kumbakonam, then, considered the seat of learning, with Sri Sudeendra Teertharu. He was an earnest student and believed in preparations, and dedicated to mastering all the subjects, he was taught. It is said that, as a young child, he was also tutored by his brother-in-law, Lakshmi Nrusimhacharya. He learned the Indian Scriptures, Shastras and Vedas and mastered the texts, including Yajur Veda, Manimanjari, AnumadhwaVijaya and more, gaining expertise, early.

It is said that his learning pace, grasping abilities and memory was much higher and stood distinctively apart from the rest of the students. The Yajur Veda, considered one of the most complex and challenging forms came to him easily and he mastered it no time, it is believed. He wrote under a pen name, Venu Gopala and also gained another name Veena Venkata Bhatta for gaining immense expertise in playing the Veena.

Under his guru, Sudeendra Teertharu, he gained knowledge of several complex traditions and sciences. He was a passionate student, staying up through the nights, writing commentaries on the subjects he had been taught. He engaged and participated in several debates, displaying unconsciously his mastery of grammar, knowledge and was eventually called, Mahabhashya Venkatanathacharya.

His worshippers and followers opine that Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Saraswati, all co-existed in his spirit, integrated into his essence. Venkatanatha mastered the six darshanas – Nyaya, Vaishesika, Sankhya, Yoga, Purva and Uttara Mimamsa. In addition to learning the scriptures, he mastered various subjects like Material Science, Logic, Cognitive Psychology, Ritualistic traditions and Classical Literatures. People experienced the aura and felt the radiance of his scholarship when he was very young.  

A scholar, whose knowledge of the classical language Sanskrit laid the foundation for a lifetime of philosophical leanings, creating outstanding literature and commentaries, also, works of artistic excellence. He was endowed above all, with a mind-field enriched and nourished with thoughts beyond the banal, a world-view which would ultimately pave the path for elevating and uplifting mankind.
