Srirangam located near Tiruchirappalli is an important pilgrim destination for the Vaishnavas. It is one of the Swayambhu idols dating back to treta yuga. It is believed the king Ikshvaku brought this from satya loka to the earth and succeeded by his dynasty Kings up to Lord Rama. After killing the demon Ravana and coronating Vibhishana as the King of Lanka lord Rama invites Vibhishana to Ayodhya. At Ayodhya after ascending the throne Lord Rama and Sita together ceremoniously gave away gifts and rewards to all the persons who supported in the mission to get back Sita. At this point in time Vibhishana requested Lord Rama for the sacred idol of Lord Ranganatha for which Lord Rama generously gifted him. While carrying this to Lanka the idol settled down at this location now called Srirangam.
Sri Krishna avadootha a gifted devotee of Guru Rayaru in his book Sri Raghavendra Tantra has clearly mentioned that Guru Rayaru was Prahalada in Satya Yuga Vibhishana in the Treta yuga, Bahlika in dwaparyuga followed by Sri Vyasya Tirtha and Sri Satyasandha Tirtha in Kali Yuga.
Sri Raghavendra Tirtha visiting Srirangam, worshiping Lord Ranganatha, performing chaturmasa masa vratha and spending devotional time at this Kshetra gives a connect to the avatara of Vibhushan and Sri Raghavendra Tirtha.
