Sri Raghavendra Tirtha from Pandharpur travelled to Kolhapur, the town of lotus ponds. This town also carries high importance as Lord Krishna visited this town along with his brother Balarama. Guru Rayaru visited the temple of Goddess Mahalakshmi. This Goddess was dear to him as she was the wife of the Supreme and she had her place in the heart of Lord Srinivasa. He was thoroughly aware of the attributes of the mother Goddess Mahalakshmi so well that he had written commentary’s on the ‘Sri Suktha’. 

It is said that Guru Rayaru offered prayers to Mahalakshmi to bestow all the richness and comforts to his devotees praying for fulfilment of such wants. The richness of the devotees of Guru Rayaru stands testimony to the prayers of Guru Rayaru at the Mahalakshmi Temple.
