Lord Digvijayarama Idol – A invaluable possession

Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt in its Heirloom has several sacred Idols carrying high spiritual value, which are priceless and have a curious origin. These include Sri Moola Rama, Sri Digvijayarama, Sri Jaya Rama, Sri Vaikunta Vasudeva, Sri Santhanagopalakrishna and Vyasa Mushty which are the Aasthana Prathimes of the Mutt.

The Digvijayarama mounted on a Rajathapeeta forms a magnificent idol of worship. The Peeta is said to have been a part of the items found in the Gopi Chandana blocks collected by Sri Madhvacharya from the Captain of the ship that he rescued from a disaster. The Peeta caries miniature carvings of Dashavatara and its origin can be dated at least to Dwaparyuga. The Acharya makes a perfect Idol of Digvijayarama and mounts it on the Peeta.

Another salient concept is, the acharya caries this idol to Badarikashrama and gets the physical touch or Sparsha of Lord Veda Vyasa to the idol making it more Sacred.

At one point, the Acharya gives this sacred idol to Sri Padmanabha Teertha, his immediate disciple and from then on, it passes hands in the lineage now called as Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt. Daily poojas and sevas are performed to this idol and also shown to the devotees during the Pooja.

The Peeta, found together with Lord Krishna Idol, which is 5000 years old, the idol made by Sri Madhvacharya, touched by Lord Veda vyasa and worshiped by Sri Raghavendra Teertharu make the idol very sacred and distinct.
