Once Sri Raghavendra tirtha was camping in Chitradurga which was his favourite destination for the reason the Pandavas had worshipped Lord Hanuman’s idol with the tail having five bells here. The people of the town were amazed to witness a rare and unusual occurrence. One Neerina Venkanna engaged in fetching and serving water to the Rayaru and team was found all the time engrossed in serious inward thinking. Rayaru observes this and asks him as to what he wants. He pleads rayaru asking for Sadgathi or Moksha.
Rayaru reconfirms if he is ready for it and Venkanna confirms to it. Rayaru gives him a mantropadesha and tells him to continue chanting it. The following day a large agnikunda was made live and venkanna was asked to jump into it. A large number of people had gathered to witness the episode while some of them were sceptical. They were amazed to see a celestial vehicle with Vishnu Dhootas together with Venkanna rising up from the agnikunda and moving towards the sky.
Rayaru makes Neerina Venkanna soul to reach the desired destination and thus fulfils his wish. Rayaru is known to grant wishes not just materialistic but also involving spiritual pursuits and destinations for the next life. The memorial for this event can be seen in chitradurga even today.
