Tungabhadra River is known for its sweet and soft waters. The river has such clear waters that one can see the rocky land beneath it and the flow of water constantly varies. As, the water flow was less, one could cross the river easily by walk.
One such occasion, a deeply devoted Ananda Dasa, disciple of Ibrahimpur Appa who frequently visited Mantralaya for Rayaru’s Darshan, had not visited Sri Panchamukhi Temple, planned on visiting it first and then take Rayaru’s Darshan. On arrival to Tungabhadra, one has to cross the river banks by coracle called as Theppa. On that particular day, the water flow was higher than normal, and as a result, he was objected to travel further. However, one of the rowers agreed to cross the banks as he was in a hurry. As his journey continued, he chanted Om ‘Sri Raghavendraya Namaha’ the Coracle was mid-way and water level was on high and could not resist the churn, the rower left him in the turbulent waters and he was by himself.
The shaken Ananda Dasaru prayed to Rayaru and out of nowhere two sanyasis came to his rescue, and was taken to the banks. After reaching, he enquired the whereabouts of the sanyasis, they were Ragappa and Vadappa, who belonged to Mantralaya, and they vanished after walking a distance. Later, Ibrahimpur Appa realizing the compassionate act of Rayaru tells him that they were none other than Sri Raghavendra Teertharu and Sri Vaadhindra Teertharu.
Ananda Dasar had lost all the hopes of being alive. The only thing he remembered was Guru Raghavendra. His Bhakti paid off.
