Sri Raghavendra Tirtharu spent around 10 years in Udupi Kshetra and his stay at this place was very memorable. The place he stayed at Udupi was just opposite to the Lord Krishna Temple.
The decade of his Sanyasa life spent in Udupi was very significant and is said to be memorable for it was at this time, that he scripted lot of works on philosophy. He spent considerable time in serving Lord Krishna idol concentrated by his Parama Guru Sri Madhvacharya. Moreover, Lord Krishna was the Ishta Devatha of Rayaru. He found the Udupi Krishna idol so fascinating and he used to get into ecstasy looking at it. His love for the idol inspired him to make a similar looking idol out of Gold. Rayaru prefers gold to exhibit the richness and grandeur of the Lord, He makes a flawless, glittering and marvelous idol of Lord Krishna and calls it Sri Santhana Gopala Krishna. This Idol resembles the idol of Udupi Krishna i.e., child Krishna holding the churning stick. It is done in the miniature style. This idol reflects the quality artist in Rayaru. Making of this idol was in memory of his long stay in Udupi. It is believed that witnessing the Pooja of this idol will benefit with good parenthood or Santhana Prapthi. The Pooja to this idol is done only on some specific days in a year
Currently this remains an Aasthana Prathime of Sri Raghavendra Swamy mutt, Mantralaya.
